BOARD OF DIRECTORS NEWS BACK TO TOP

We continue to encounter major maintenance expenses. Given the age of our facilities, this is not unexpected, and we continue to have adequate funds in our reserves account to cover them. This year several inches of plaster had to be removed from the swimming pool shell and replaced with a new lining. The pool coping was replaced as well. We have been plagued over the last several years with flaking plaster that created a potential safety hazard. The new lining should prevent a recurrence for 10 years or so.

Our greenway trails are also being refurbished on an ongoing basis. Most recently, the Trafalgar and Fallsworth trials have been improved, including a new boardwalk section where the Fallsworth trail would frequently wash out. The tunnel lighting has also been updated. We are still faced with significant repairs to our tennis facilities. This will be a high priority for the board in the coming year.

In order to properly fund our reserves in the face of the recent expenditures and those anticipated for the near future, a moderate increase in the annual assessment was required for 2008. Annual increases in our contractual obligations also contributed to the need for an assessment increase.

A very noticeable change to the neighborhood is the Sunrise Assisted Living construction adjacent to the BP Station. The impact is obviously most significant to the homes along Solstice Circle and we regret the loss of the trees. However, we think that Sunrise has done a good job in sitting the new structure away from the existing homes and by providing buffers at the perimeter with the final landscaping plans.

The Board would like to thank all of the people that volunteer their time to serve on the community’s committees, especially the committee chairmen. We would like to thank Lisa Fitzmorris in particular for resurrecting the Community Watch committee and hope that many of you will participate in that effort.

COMUNITY WATCH NEWS BACK TO TOP

The Oxxford Hunt Community Watch is active again. The purpose of the Community Watch is to work together with the Cary Police Department to reduce and prevent crime in Oxxford Hunt.

Everyone can be involved in the Community Watch. All you need to do is to be aware of what is happening on your street. If you witness a crime, call 911. Note any suspicious activity on your street by getting as much information as you can: license plate number, car description, time of day, etc. If it warrants immediate attention, call 911. (For example, an individual is sitting in a parked vehicle on the street and is watching children playing.) If there is something that you feel requires further investigation (such as increased traffic at a neighbor’s house), please send an email to: oxhcwatch@gmail.com with as much information as possible, and I will pass it along to the Community Services officer at the Cary Police Department.

You can also call the non-emergency number at the police department: 469-4012.

Help prevent crime by letting your neighbors know when you are gone. Keep your garage doors closed at all times (cars driving by can see those golf clubs), use timers with your lights when you are away, and engrave your possessions with your license number. Also, if you park your car outside of your locked garage, keep the doors locked when you are not in it.

To be actively involved in the Community Watch, send me your email address (send to oxhcwatch@gmail.com), and I will add you to my distribution list.

Please come to our meetings at the clubhouse: 2nd Wednesday of every month (except for the month of June) at 7:30pm.

We are recruiting Block Captains. The minimum requirement is to give me your email address (send to oxhcwatch@gmail.com) and the street that you live on and then keep an eye on your area. We hope to have training for those who have the time to invest in a more active Block Captain role. And finally – you can make a difference in preventing crime in Oxxford Hunt.

RECREATION COMMITTEE NEWS BACK TO TOP

The Oxxford Hunt Recreation Committee is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the pool, tennis courts and clubhouse as well as for the coordination of community social activities.  It is currently co-chaired by Lisa Myers and Cheri Miller.  Some of our members have been on the committee for a long time and are ready to move on to other things.  If you are interested in being a part of the recreation committee, we could use your help!  Please contact us through the web site.

This past year was a busy one for the recreation committee.  We hosted parties at the pool for Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.  We also hosted a Halloween party and Holiday party, complete with Santa!  We have also had the fence around the playground removed.  Also, this fall, the pool was completely resurfaced with new plaster and coping.  It looks beautiful and will be great for the upcoming summer swim season!  We are going to pilot a new guest pass card this summer that can be purchased at the pool.  It will be similar to the Swamp Shack cards the Swim Team uses in the concession stand.  You may purchase a card for $15.00 and that will allow you 6 guests (which basically gives you one guest for free!).  They will be kept at the lifeguard stand so you will no longer have to carry money to the pool to pay for a guest once the card is purchased.

The recreation committee has once again scheduled parties at the pool for Memorial Day and July 4th.  We are also going to try to host adult swim nights again.   This year they will be on the first Friday of each month beginning in June and ending with August.  All adults, 18 and over, are welcome.  They will begin at 9:00 pm and go until 11:00 pm.  We are also going to be hosting a Halloween party again on Sunday, October 26 and a Holiday party on Dec. 7.  These will be at the clubhouse.  We hope to see everyone out and about this year.
