News from the Board of Directors
News from the Board of Directors (March 2010)
Hello from the Oxxford Hunt Board of Directors.
First of all we want to encourage you to attend the upcoming annual meeting scheduled for April 1st, at 7:00pm in the clubhouse. We will be discussing issues of importance to the Oxxford Hunt community as well as electing three new board members. You will hear from all the volunteer committees, as well as reports from the BOD President and a treasurer’s report. We will also be talking about community association issues including the pool, clubhouse, trails, vandalism, and the tennis courts.
Some of the key achievements and activities this past year include:
- We have completed major renovations to the interior of the clubhouse.
- Have hired a new pool management company, American Pool Service.
- Are in the process of converting the pool to a salt system instead of traditional chlorine.
- Our community volunteer groups including Recreation, Common Grounds, Architectural, and Community Watch have all been active.
- The association has been unable to garner any volunteer assistance in exploring the tennis court issues.
- The Board has been able to again avoid raising homeowner assessments.
- Sunrise Assisted Living has opened and now part of our community.
Remember that the community relies on volunteer commitment to keep the Oxxford Hunt community an active, attractive, relaxing, and safe place for all of us to live. Do you have an active role in the community?
Your Oxxford Hunt Community Association Board of Directors Tom Gwynn, Paula Smith, Paul Rodier, Jay Babson, and Walt Thompson

News from the Recreation Committee
The Recreation Committee got a new start in 2009 with almost all new members. It was a great, busy year filled with fun community events. We kicked off the pool season with a Memorial Day Pool Party, featuring music by Tom Teachout. This was followed by a July 4th party featuring games and DJ Harold Bennett. Finally, we said goodbye to summer with a final Labor Day party, with another great performance by Mr. Teachout.
In the Fall, the Recreation Committee sponsored a successful Charity Poker Tournament, a community pot-luck breakfast, and the Annual Oxxford Hunt Holiday Party. We are already planning several events for 2010, so make sure to save the dates on your calendars:
- Community Yard Sale: Saturday, April 17th
- Swim team registration: Sunday, April 18 from 2-4 Oxxford Hunt Clubhouse
- Memorial Day Pool Party: Mon. May 31st, 12-4 PM
- July 4th Pool Party: Sun July 4th
- Community Work Day: Rescheduled for Fall 2010
- Labor Day Pool Party: Monday, Sept 6th, 12-4 PM
- Halloween Party: Sunday, Oct. 24th, 1-3 PM
- Holiday Party: Sunday, December 5th, 1-3 PM
The Recreation Committee is always seeking new members. Serving on the committee is fun, easy, and requires only a one to three hour monthly time commitment. Regular meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, at 8:00pm, at the clubhouse. If you have any questions or would like more information before you make a final decision to join, please feel free to email Allison at
oxhrecreation@oxxfordhunt.com. You are also welcomed to sit in on our next meeting to get a better feel for what we do. We really hope you will say “Yes” and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
First Annual Oxxford Hunt Men’s Charity Poker Tournament
The First Annual Oxxford Hunt Men’s Charity Poker Tournament was held on December 4, 2009 and was a complete success. The event was planned by Derrick Evans and sponsored by the Recreation Committee. We raised $530 for the Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network, a local homeless assistance center. They received the check in time for the holidays. All of the players reported that they had a great time and mentioned how appreciative they were that local area businesses had been willing to donate prizes to the tournament. Derrick plans on holding the tournament again in November 2010 – look for more information by email in the Fall!

Community Watch News
The purpose of the Community Watch is to work together with the Cary Police Department to reduce and prevent crime in Oxxford Hunt. The Cary Police Department is providing us with tools and training to help keep our community safe. Check out the crime data map by going to http://www.townofcary.org/depts/pdhome.htm and clicking on the Crime Data link. Training for the Community Watch groups has included Gang Awareness and Crime Stoppers seminars. The Crime Stoppers program is completely anonymous (no caller id) and pays for leads that result in an arrest. The payment for a misdemeanor is from $100 - $500 and for a felony up to $2500. You do not have to appear in court. Call 226-2746.
We’ve had a good year in Oxxford Hunt and you can help keep the crime low. Please keep valuables in your house and not in your car and keep your car locked at all times. Larceny from motor vehicles (misdemeanor) has been our most prevalent crime. The other top crime in Cary is theft from garages (felony). Congratulations to Oxxford Hunt residents for keeping this crime from our neighborhood. Please report any crime in progress to 911.
All other suspicious activities should be reported to 469-4012. Having a police officer come down your street can prevent a potential crime. Recently, some neighborhoods in Cary have reported thefts during the day. If you are home during the day, be aware of any activity on your street that is out of the ordinary. According to the police department, thieves will check first to see if anyone is home. If you are alone and do not feel comfortable answering the door, don’t. If you do answer the door, ask the person for a business card, solicitation permit, and name. Call the police if the person is suspicious. To be added to the Community Watch email list, send your email address to
oxhcwatch@oxxfordhunt.com. The plan for 2009 is to establish a Community Watch Yahoo Group for Oxxford Hunt. Members from this email list will be invited to join the group.
